McGrath is too cowardly to state this clear teaching publicly, so he replaced what Archbishop Nienstedt clearly meant with something McGrath thought would be more palatable, which made McGrath sound like a moron.

God did not create the sexual facility simply for pleasure, or he would not have it the only natural means of reproduction.

That being said, the heterosexual sin of contraception is what opened the door for all the confusion about sexual morality because it separated sexual activity from its natural end. Heterosexuals engage in grave evil when they contracept, because they are trying to short circuit God's plan for the sexual faculty while still experiencing the pleasure associated with sex. In this way, contraception is much like the pathology of bulimia, where a person stuffs him or herself for pleasure and then purges so as not to get fat. It's also interesting that contraception no only lead to an increase in abortion, but also an increase in divorce.

I fully expect Archbishop Nienstedt to address the evils of contraception and the fact that contracepting couples should not go to communion, in due time. This, too, is part of the Church's unchanging tradition, but I think people are expecting too much of him if they want him to handle all of the confusion in the Archdiocese in one fell swoop.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-70324504912758748502007-11-29T00:50:00.000-06:002007-11-29T00:50:00.000-06:00Hi Terry,Paul is simply taking archdiocesan spokes...Hi Terry,

Paul is simply taking archdiocesan spokesperson Dennis McGrath's asinine comment to its logical conclusion: the purpose of bars is to find and engage in sex!

McGrath, of course, is clearly talking about gay bars. Accordingly, he is the one who is asserting that “gay culture” is “completely sex-based.” He, not Paul, is the one who is reducing everything to “genital expression.” Paul is simply taking his cues from McGrath.

Paul is clearly offended by McGrath’s reducing of gay people to "sex-based" entities, and by the related idea that people go to bars simply for sex. If you were to see the archbishop or McGrath in a bar (gay or straight) would we assume they're there for sex? Paul's saying that, according to McGrath, you should.

That thought offends you. Rightly so. Yet you seem perfectly fine to ignore or accept as a given, McGrath's assumption that someone who visits a gay bar is doing so for sex.

Shouldn't you be offended by McGrath's comment too?

Peace,

MichaelMichael J. It seems to confirm my theory that gay culture is completely sex-based and everything is reduced to genital expression.Terry Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09819523933502820341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-26374072934827800302007-11-28T17:14:00.000-06:002007-11-28T17:14:00.000-06:00Based on what the spokesperson for the Archdiocese...Based on what the spokesperson for the Archdiocese says, every time he and Nienstedt go to a bar they drop their pants and engage in sexual activity. I knew I was forgetting to do something every time I went dancing!

But like I always say, the more they talk, the more stupid stuff comes out of their mouths. All we need to do is shine the light on their dark corner of the world. The Nick Coleman article is currently the most e-mailed story. Keep up the Light!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-72000728962427534072007-11-28T15:08:00.000-06:002007-11-28T15:08:00.000-06:00Imagine Archbishop Levada, now Prefect for SCDF, a...Imagine Archbishop Levada, now Prefect for SCDF, as pastor of the San Francisco Archdiocese? It did not go well with most Catholics.

Picked by Pope Rottweiler's protege Fr. Joe Fessio, S.J., Fessio was forced to leave U.S.F. and join Ave Maria -- the only extremism left for him to find sanctuary.

The Catechism still claims homosexuality is "intrinsically disordered," which thus makes god the author of disordered human beings, or are congenital sexual orientations like original sin that stain some people and not others?

It's all hopeless as long as the Church continues to insist on Thomist Natural Law -- a horribly bastardized misinterpretation of Aristotle's "physis" and "ethos."

Plato lost to Aristotle in the 13th century, so when does Aristotle lose to Epicurus? Oh, that's right. The writings of the most prolific philosopher in antiquity and first naturalist were "lost," with the Vatican holding but a few remnants.

Purges. Books burned. Oaths required. Witch hunts. Even the great pastoral letter of Archbishop Quinn in 1975 on "Homosexuality and the Church" cannot be found -- purged lest the facts of nature not comport with the laws of God -- which Natural Law requires. First, formal, and final be-causes evaporated in the 15th century, yet the Church still uses this "science" to justify its irrational condemnation of "intrinsically disordered" creatures?

As an Augustinian, Ratzinger appeals to the fundamentalist nature of Catholicism. Has the humanism of Catholicism completely abated?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-58570379357195053242007-11-28T09:52:00.000-06:002007-11-28T09:52:00.000-06:00Nienstedt's pronouncement was timed just right to ...Nienstedt's pronouncement was timed just right to intimidate people who have gay children and grandchildren who are coming home with their partners for the holidays. Do we assign our gay son and his partner to the same bedroom, as usual, or do we make one of them sleep on the sofa in the den? Do we let them sit next to each other at Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, as usual, or do we put grandma in between? Do we go out with them and their friends to the gay clubs, as we've always done, or do we suddenly stop having fun with our children?

This Nienstedt guy sounds like something out of the 19th Century. Fortunately, I don't know of any Catholic parents of gay children, or their allies, who will take him seriously for even a second. And, of course, what else won't we take him seriously on?IronKneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06960578366044341478noreply@blogger.com
