I provide more details about this photo here. And, yes, the preachers were preaching quite loudly a message of "hell-fire and damnation." They weren't connected to the guy who was handing out Bibles.

Also, many of those who "responded vehemently" to these preachers identify as Christian. I don't think it's accurate or helpful to try and fit people into either a "Christian" camp or a "gay" camp (no pun intended!). For folks that I know, it's a case of "both/and" rather than "either/or."

As to the presence of the Basilica at Pride, I can't speak to that. I can say that no Catholic parish had a booth this year at Pride or marched in the parade.

And finally, in response to your last question, "Would gay people ever attempt to infiltrate a Catholic gathering?", most Catholic gatherings I attend include gay people whose presence is welcomed, accepted, and very much a given. There's no need for "infiltration."

Peace,

MichaelMichael J. Were they shouting out their message, or were they unobtrusive as they were supposed to be? Did they do more than hand out Bibles, and so on? I was wondering if a gay-pride presence is permitted at public gatherings, such as a St. Patrick's day parade or something similar? Do you think Christians would have responded so vehemently against that type of participation as Pride organizers di with these evangelists?

Then I wonder if you could comment on the presence of the parish of St. Mary's Basilica? I noted on a very conservative Catholic blog that representatives of the Basilica were there welcoming gay people to the church. The implication is that they were acting contrary to "diocesean rules of conduct", if you will.

It seems to me there must have been unofficial infiltrators/spies there on the lookout for Catholics who support Pride. I find that curious. I wonder if you have information on these topics? Would gay people ever attempt to infiltrate a Catholic gathering?

Thanks for considering my questions.

TerryTerry Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09819523933502820341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-35291221552510430942010-06-28T12:32:25.900-05:002010-06-28T12:32:25.900-05:00Hi Michael, I e-mailed this to my 2 friends in Oz....Hi Michael, I e-mailed this to my 2 friends in Oz.Mareczkuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13122584421854834046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-84259457754897374932010-06-27T09:01:14.617-05:002010-06-27T09:01:14.617-05:00This makes me smile.This makes me smile.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13537128354269191991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-79918925035002193432010-06-26T21:25:56.148-05:002010-06-26T21:25:56.148-05:00Why didn't I think of that?Why didn't I think of that?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14947828415136413477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27612445.post-11587504377185070112010-06-26T20:33:17.765-05:002010-06-26T20:33:17.765-05:00Thanks, Kevin.
