Liturgies of Courage and Love

Recently I updated The Wild Reed's Catholic Bibliography on LGBT Issues with Courage to Love: Liturgies for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community, an anthology of worship materials that allow lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to affirm their sexuality.

Compiled by Geoffrey Duncan, the book contains an impressive selection of poems, prayers, stories, litanies, same-sex blessings, marriage ceremonies, celebratory material, and Eucharistic and baptismal liturgies.

British MP Ben Bradshaw notes the following in the book's introduction:

Courage to Love is a timely and moving anthology of verse, prayer, and human testimony for people in or outside the Church. It will provide strength and inspiration to those who want to celebrate their God-given sexuality in the face of continuing rejection and hostility from Church leaders. It will also help those engaged in the painful process of coming to terms with themselves and reconciling their natures with their faith and with their families and friends.

Geoffrey Duncan is the Church and Society Consultant for the Thames North Synod of the United Reformed Church in the UK. He has compiled five other anthologies of prayer and worship, including Dare to Dream, Seeing Christ in Others, and World of Blessing.
