The Holy Pleasure of Intimacy

To open ourselves to a depth of creativity in relationship, to give ourselves, for example, to a true intimacy of sexual union, is to enter a realm of vulnerability that exposes the core of our being to another. It is for this reason that in the great love poem* we find the refrain, “Do not stir up or awaken love until it is ready.” The holy pleasure of intimacy is not cheap pleasure and cannot be hurried. It’s full richness is forged only with time and with trust.
