Here’s a suggestion, Archbishop Broglio. Why don’t you advocate for the entirety of Catholic sexual morality and extend [the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy) to all single service people, insisting on their maintaining celibacy in the interests of unit cohesion and morale? It might leave us with very little in the way of a military, but at least it would be a military that conformed to Catholic sexual morality.
I read what Archbishop Broglio said and I find it upsetting. He talks about respect for gay people but then he doesn't really show any respect in his comments. Do these people realize how they are talking out of both sides of their mouths? He spoke of the need to avid unjust discrimination. If he believes this then he should speak up against the unjust discrimination in the military and he should support the end of "Don't ask, don't tell."
ReplyDeleteWell said, Mark!
ReplyDeleteAlso, doesn't Archbishop Broglio realize that many of the service people that he serves are gay and lesbian? Many of them are probably Catholic. Don't they count? He talks about compassion but his words are not compassionate, they are prejudiced. Is the man truly that blind?
