Good for the Jews! (They were into divorce as well.) But aren't Christians supposed to follow that Jesus guy?
ReplyDeleteAnd Jesus said what, exactly, about homosexuality?
ReplyDeleteAlso, many Christians, including Catholics, refer to the Hebrew scriptures to bolster their opposition to both homosexuality and civil marriage rights for same-sex couples. I think this particular sign is a creative and clever response to those folks.

I believe He said, in Matthew 5:18:
ReplyDelete"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."
King James Bible
So, Ray, how do you square that with any number of things that we, as Catholics, don't follow from the Hebrew scriptures (or even the Christian scriptures)? Are you saying we should execute women who are not virgins on their wedding day? And what about the Vatican and its interest-charging bank and immense wealth? Do you ignore the texts opposed to such things? And if you do, aren't you being somewhat of a "cafeteria" Christian!
ReplyDeleteI responded to your first question, Michael.
ReplyDeleteI occasionally do wonder about things like that. Fortunately, when Jesus established His Church, He said, "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven."
My Church does not require the execution of non-virgins on their wedding day.
Comparing laws from 4500 years ago to today makes for good headlines. But Jesus' Resurrection had a "Sunset Provision" in it.
Wonderful rejoinder to those who keep saying, "The bible says . . . . "
