Quote of the Day

The most interesting part of the Star Tribune's recent poll on the marriage amendment ("Marriage Amendment Divide Is Deep," Nov. 8) is the wide demographic split between young and old, with 70 percent of those older than 65 supporting the proposed anti-gay-marriage amendment, but only 30 percent of those under 35 agreeing.

This suggests that if the amendment passes, it may have the shortest life span of any amendment in Minnesota history. We can expect to be voting on it every two years, until enough older voters die and enough younger people turn 18 to repeal it.

Here's a radical thought: Let's defeat it the first time and be done with it.
