This is how a Cardinal of the Church chooses to usher in the season of peace, the celebration of Jesus' birth? This is the action of a pathetic man, scared and bewildered. Rather than my impulse to respond in anger, I will choose to view this episode with pity, forgiveness and grace. I will give thanks for the hundreds of Catholics in the pews I know who carry out the true ministry of the Church – generosity of heart, mature and confident in the knowledge that we are all family.

Cardinal George's "Ku Klux Klan" analogy for gay pride festival shows the cast of his mind. What if he encouraged the pastor and parishioners of the church to celebrate with the people in the streets? It is all about where one thinks God is to be found. Is the Chicago Gay Pride very different from the Minneapolis one? I find the Minneapolis one inspiring. We should invite Cardinal George to come walk with all the happy families and friends on Hennepin Avenue next June.
