Quote of the Day

Holy Week, that stretch of time between Christ's entry into Jerusalem for the feast of Passover to the laying in the tomb a week later, is a panoply of the sufferings and the heartaches that life brings to the process of honing souls. Christ suffered the disillusionment that comes with superficial success, a sense of failure, betrayal by people he trusted, misunderstanding by authority, fear, humiliation, abandonment, loneliness, despair, and death. And he shows all of us how to do the same. To say "I believe . . . Christ suffered" is to say, "I believe that suffering can be transcended." It is to throw in our lot with hope.
