An aspect of the story of the Magi that makes it always our own story is the aspect of pilgrimage or quest, the task of discernment, of interpreting the signs – and all this not without encountering the problem of treacherous friendship and dishonest advice as happened to the Magi. The search for the real Jesus Christ, and indeed the real search for Jesus Christ, in our own lives and times is well represented in the story of the Magi's journey. We too are on a quest which requires divine guidance and continuing discernment.
