Quote of the Day

There is human knowledge and then there is the truth. The gap between the two is overwhelming and so we fill it – with faith, with fear, with anger, with love, with skepticism, with disinterest. If your choice gives you hope and does no harm to others, you deserve no derision.

To dismiss the spirituality of Marianne Williamson and like-minded individuals is to assume that your own knowledge extends all the way to the truth. It doesn’t. To read the spirituality of Williamson and like-minded individuals in such relentlessly bad faith is to indulge in an intellectual arrogance bordering on bigotry.

Science brought us nuclear proliferation. Reason brought us the Domino Theory. “Acceptable” presidential candidates voted for the Iraq War and jailed poor parents for truancy. [In her recent tweet in relation to Hurricane Dorian] Williamson [simply] asked some people to close their eyes and envision a safer world.
