It's not just the GOP that could use a visit from Jesus.
Go to any Catholic forum, suggest that fancy church buildings be sold and the money reinvested in service to the poor, and see what happens...
Spot on - thanks
It's funny - didn't a character in the new testament say something like this?
"Why has there been this waste of perfumed oil?
It could have been sold for more than three hundred days’ wages
and the money given to the poor.”
The poor need salvific beauty just like every body else. Indeed, the mentally ill flock to beautiful churches. Why? because it reminds them that there is more to the world than the bread that perishes.
And let's not forget that the Catholic Church is perhaps the single greatest supplier of food, shelter and clothing to the poor.
Please put to bed the paper tiger.
"If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." (Matt. 19:21).
Let's give the hungry a choice between a meal and stained glass windows, and see what they say.
