The 2019 documentary Gaza Fights for Freedom is the debut feature film by journalist Abby Martin. It’s a project that had its genesis during Martin’s years of reporting from Palestine. When she was denied entry into Gaza by the Israeli government on the accusation she was a “propagandist,” Martin connected with a team of journalists in Gaza to produce the film through the blockaded border.
The film’s primary focus is the historic Great March of Return protests, which occurred every week from March 2018 until December 2019. Gaza Fights for Freedom, however, is about so much more: the story of Gaza past and present, much of it shown through rare archival footage that explains a history never acknowledged by corporate mainstream media. Throughout Martin’s documentary, we hear from victims of the ongoing massacre, including journalists, medics, and the family of internationally-acclaimed paramedic, Razan al-Najjar.
As one viewer notes on YouTube: “Gaza Fights for Freedom is essential viewing for all who care to understand the plight of the people of Palestine.”
