Jason Duchin on the “Trumpian White Supremacist Lie” That Must Be Confronted

Trump and his ilk, in their ruthless attempt to rewrite American mythology, want to cast the immigrant as the enemy. The outsider. The contaminant. The refugee, here to take what is yours. The threat.

Trumps army storms through our neighborhoods like wolves. Sewing fear, drumming up panic, uncertainty, and suspicion. They pit neighbor against neighbor while ICE, Border Patrol, and the National Guard descend on communities as instruments of intimidation. They are the rampaging nightmare extensions of Stephen Miller’s demonic cruelty and Donald Trump’s bottomless appetite for division.

Their real project isn’t security. It’s psychological warfare. They want to condition us to stop seeing ourselves as one nation and start seeing only fragments: red vs. blue, native-born vs. arrived, Black vs. white, citizen vs. other. They want permanent fracture. Permanent hostility. Permanent distraction so they can consolidate power and money all while elevating whiteness.

They seek to shred the complex histories that built this country and replace it with something borrowed from the darkest chapters of world history. A mythology rooted in exclusion, fear, and bloodline.

The Trumpian white supremacist lie must be confronted at every turn. Their machinery must tirelessly be exposed. Their perverse distortion of who we are must be defeated at the ballot box, in the courts, in the streets of public conscience.

Because immigrants didn’t weaken this nation. They built it. The people who were brought here against their will, or came here fleeing oppression, or came to find a dream. They all built the country we now inhabit [with all its] faults and triumphs.

No oppressive regime of fear gets to erase our nation’s truth.

“A Power Grab the Likes of Which This Country Has Never Seen”

Writes digital creator Jason Duchin . . .

MAGA is executing a power grab the likes of which this country has never seen. Trump isn’t renovating the ballroom for someone else to use it, he’s moving in.

In an interview with The Economist, Steve Bannon said it plainly: “Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people ought to just get accommodated with that.”

Their intent isn’t governance. It’s domination. And if you think this is hyperbole, you’re out of your fucking mind.

“At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is. But there is a plan.” Bannon added that Trump was an “instrument of divine will,” echoing, as Trump himself has, the divine right of kings.

This isn’t strategy. It’s scripture for a political cult. The manifesto of men preparing a theological autocracy. A declaration that compromise, dialogue, and democracy itself are obstacles to be eliminated. If you are a straight white conservative Christian who digs the patriarchy you are entering the Golden age… however, for the rest of us.

Bannon and the MAGA machine see this moment as a state of war, not against a foreign enemy, but against their fellow Americans. Against liberal America. Against anyone who believes in equality, pluralism, and law. They intend to march forward with unrelenting action, counting on the left’s apathy and disorientation, disregarding constitutional history and treating power as destiny, not responsibility.

If you were facing a nuclear power that openly declared it would use its weapons against you, would you sit and negotiate or fight with everything you have to disarm them before it’s too late?

That’s the moral equation before us now. We have no choice but to act simultaneously and without hesitation on two fronts:

Resist Relentlessly. We must confront this growing authoritarian movement through protest, organizing, voting, and unyielding instances of civic courage. We cannot meet divine-right zealotry with apathy. For most of us, this will be the first time in our lives we’ve been called to defend democracy. Carrying on with a “business as usual” mindset is delusion. Figure out a way to get involved. Now.

Rebuild from the Ground Up. We must abandon the poisoned, performative politics of our era and return to something human. Build community-centered bridges of trust, care, and shared purpose. The more we connect locally, the less control authoritarians have over our fears. America must be rebuilt, not from Washington, but from our neighborhoods, schools, and streets. Find a way to begin that work.

They have money. They have power. They have a group of zealots willing to trade freedom for submission. But we have numbers. We have each other. And we have the unshakable belief that democracy is still worth fighting for.

They’ve told us loudly and repeatedly what they plan to do. The question is no longer if they’ll try to end democracy. The question is whether we’ll listen and whether we’ll act before it’s too late.

Quote of the Day

The Republican Party is unabashedly publicly embracing Nazi propoganda. At Charlie Kirk’s funeral, the Trump administration chose to push Stephen Miller onto a national stage. And he reached into the poisonous well of the infamous Nazi Joseph Goebbels, plagiarizing a speech he gave to rile his base over the death of a 22-year-old Nazi named Horst Wessel. And then he poured those words into the ears of grieving Republican Christian’s. Google the 1932 “storm is coming” speech if you have doubts.

It is almost impossible to wrap your mind around that. Republicans are openly using Hitler’s playbook to mobilize their base against the left.

In the wake of tragedy, they turned a memorial into a rallying cry, not for unity, not for healing, but for rebellion and division. They weaponized grief with the very words that once fueled genocide. In a time of grief these fine Christian’s turned to the Nazi Party for guidance. Really think about that.

This is not just politics. It is horrific. It is obscene. It is unacceptable. And it must stop.

We cannot tolerate an administration, a movement, or a party that believes Nazi history and Nazi language are tools to be deployed against fellow Americans.

This is fascism, out in the open, dripping with contempt for the values this nation claims to stand for. And every Republican who remains silent in the face of this obscenity is complicit.

“It’s Here, and We Are Sleepwalking Through It”

We are no longer teetering on the edge of authoritarianism. We are here. And the most horrifying part is we’re still going to work, booking vacations, making dinner plans, as if nothing has changed.

I keep hearing people say, I just don’t watch the news it’s too depressing. I need to get away from it all. But there is no “away.” There is no escape from what has arrived and is hardening in place.

Washington, D.C., is now under the control of the U.S. military and the Justice Department. ICE is prowling our neighborhoods, snatching people off the streets and deporting them. Universities are cutting deals with the federal government. Law firms are agreeing to stand down in the fight against totalitarianism. And presiding over it all is Führer Trump, stealing billions through crypto while keeping it deregulated so the grift never ends.

A few years ago, if someone described these events happening in another country, you’d call it what it is: a dictatorship, no different in spirit from the Soviet Union. Now it’s here, and we are sleepwalking through it.

So what do we do? We don’t shut up. We don’t go quiet. We talk about it relentlessly. That might make you bad dinner company, but fuck being polite. Now is the time for getting into good trouble. Support the few brave legislators willing to fight like those in Texas. Vote for leaders with the courage to stand up like Zohran Mamdani in NYC [and Omar Fateh in Minneapolis]. And fight voter suppression with everything we’ve got.

The National Guard deployment in D.C., just like the one in L.A., is not about crime. If it were, they’d be fanning out in the states with the highest rates of crime (top 10 per capita are Louisiana Alabama, South Carolina, New Mexico, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas Missouri, Maryland, Alaska) but 8 of those 10 voted for Trump. This is about crushing blue states, silencing opposition, and tightening the grip on power.

Their playbook is almost comical it is so well known by everyone with a 5th grade education: militarize the cities, suppress the vote, muzzle the media, attack the universities, eliminate dissent. The only way to stop it is to fight like hell, organize, take to the streets when needed, and flood the polls.

We have no choice. Lose this fight, and we lose the country. And right now, we are getting our asses kicked.

Duchin’s wake-up call reminds me of Maarva’s posthumous speech from the Star Wars TV series Andor. As I’ve said previously, I can think of no any other TV series that so powerfully captures the political zeitgeist we’re living through, one dominated by the rise of fascism in the U.S. And to be clear, Andor is not predicting this tragic turn of events; rather, as Melanie McFarland accurately observes, it is powerfully reflecting it. For as both Jason Duchin and the Andor character of Maarva remind us: Fascism is here and it’s not visiting anymore. It wants to stay.

And yet we must resist. We must wake-up and, in Maarva’s words, “Fight the empire!”

Now there are many ways to fight the empire, and personally I’m into non-violent resistance. And by “empire” I’m referring to Chris Hedges’s understanding of the American Empire.

It’s the same empire that poet Mary Oliver identifies – one that needs to be named, resisted, and transformed.
