Above: Before a crowd of more than 7,000 people, Governor Mark Dayton signs into law the bill that makes civil marriage for same-sex couples legal in Minnesota beginning August 1.
With Gov. Dayton are the bill's two chief sponsors, Rep. Karen Clark, with her partner Jacquelyn Zita, and Sen. Scott Dibble, with his husband Richard Leyva.

Just a note to congratulate you on your leadership and success in the marriage equality vote.
I read your blog each day and have watched your efforts and progress.
Congratulations.
Congratulation to you and all of the citizens of Minnesota - as the newest state in the nation to come to it's sense and approve equality for all in civil marriage. We here in Colorado must wait our day for this - there was a civil union bill passed - but it is only a lukewarm version of what should have been - equality for all. Hopefully the US Supreme Court will make the national decision in it's upcoming decision...
